I am having to re-think my river walking route, since talking to some locals who have spotted two bears in the area. One large black bear and one smaller brown bear. Bears don't usually bother with humans and I've never had a problem with them while walking the river. Cougars are another story. (Not older women dating younger men. I have no problem with that. I'm talking mountain lions here. Big, big cats that will maul you. Then eat you.)
The issue at hand is this: if I happen to spook one, or it still has this year's cub with it, one of these bears will leave you alone if you are very still (play dead) and one will just start to eat you. The problem is, I can't remember which is which. I think it's the brown bear that will eat you....I think. You don't really want to be wrong on this though.
So....I am starting a new walking route tomorrow.
Some other things I've been thinking about are as follows:
1. How much I love Carnation's Chai Spice coffee creamer, and how I can't wait until their Pumpkin Spice creamer comes out. (Yes, I know this stuff is 99.9% chemicals - but a girl has to have her vices.)
2. How I wish I had the time or the inclination to bead - because this is really pretty and I'd like to do this to my lampshades!
3. Does Mrs. B have any limbs not injured yet? (Giggle)
4. How much I love these cheap little "Sasquatch" Composition Books I bought in the back-to-school bins. They are 100% recycled, they fill my need to surround myself with blank notebooks, and you get to search for a Sasquatch hidden somewhere on the cover! Seriously great buy! I bought mine at Walmart - but you can check them out here.

Rue...you are so funny...
Is it true that you live near real life BEARS!
I used to make the Teddy Bear kind but this is so much more VERY dangerous!
Why is the older woman thing called a cougar?
I don't get half of the lingo....
Can you play dead?...I hear it's tricky...
And I haven't a clue about the food stuff...but you do make me laugh!
I've always lived near black bears - those are the skittish ones. ;)
Those sasquatch notebooks are so cool! I don't know how I didn't spot any while perusing back to school supplies.
Wow...bears! I have to worry about bugs and gators and snakes here in FL. Don't think I'd like to take my chances with a bear though. A new route may very well be in order for you. I'm not a coffee drinker myself. I like it okay with lots of cream and sugar, but I've just never really drank the stuff. A friend of mine just suggested putting the pumpkin creamer in hot chocolate though, and that sounded tasty to me. The Chai Spice might be good in it too. Worth an experiment maybe. As for the beading...I do have a way of adding bead trim that is quite easy, even it is cheating. At fabric stores (JoAnne's Crafts) they sell beaded trim in the notions dept. where the beads are attached to some decorative ribbon or fabric and sold by the yard. So I buy no-sew adhesives and attach the beaded trim to things like roman window shade curtains, hand towels and lamp shades. Works like a charm, is easy, and looks expensive and beautiful. :o)
Celia - yes, we have real bears. All kinds, except Grizzlies are not usually found here - they are mostly East, near the Rockies. Mostly. We also have cougar, lynx, moose, elk, deer, fox, and coyote. Oh, and big beavers! LOL! I'll have to tell that story sometime...
I've never had to try to play dead. I hope I never do.
I don't know why they call older women who date younger men "cougars." I think it sucks, really. It shouldn't matter what age you are.
D - check Walmart if you have one near you. I just bought mine last weekend.
Wendy - brilliant idea! I'm going to head to my craft store this weekend and see what I can find - thanks!
Yes, a girl DOES have to have her vices. Enjoy and mind those bears!
coffee creamer...ummmm....love it! I try to stay away until Christmas time...but uggghhh it's so good.
My parents have bears around their house as well...primarily black bears, I believe.
But eek! I'd be changing my walking route too. :)
Laughing about the comment on Mrs. B. LOL

boo
Bridgett - I'm having a hard time getting to your blog - it's not loading! Is it just me?
LOL read my latest posting, I'm letting everyone off the hook, and telling you my secret for beading lampshades. 10 minutes tops to do a huge lampshade!!! There's always time for pretties!
Rue...I'm not sure. Nobody else has mentioned.
:(
I'm sorry. Let me know if it keeps up. Maybe something on my page is causing it...
