I See The Future...And It Looks Like Halloween

I've been spending a bit of time with my fire-bowl lately, since the weather has turned cool, and I'm finding that it's a rather interesting tool for scrying.

Scrying (I'm sure you know) is a type of divination where you gaze at a particular object or medium, such as water, and divine shapes and/or messages therein. This isn't something I've practiced much in the past. I prefer my tarot cards or my pendulum when it comes to divination. But staring at a fire has it's own unique rewards.

Aside from heat on a cold evening, the beauty of the flame has held people captive since fire was first harnessed. It's no wonder to me that the salamander is fire's elemental, because they are well represented in the way the flames wind around a log or lick the air. I had no problem seeing things in the fire - I just need a bit more insight as to what these things mean to me. Perhaps a bit more practice. Or a bit less Bailey's Irish Cream in my hot chocolate while scrying!

As for my October activities...after a weekend spent cooking, cleaning and eating Thanksgiving dinner repeatedly - I was done with all things turkey! I'm turning to things of a spookier sort. I decorated at work on Monday when no one was around. They were all very pleased yesterday when they came to work and spied spiders, pumpkins and skeletons!

Last night it was spooky things on the silver screen (but not too scary - I'm a big fraidy-cat!) Tonight it's taking some time to finally settle into the creepy "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" which I bought months ago, and still haven't read!

Tomorrow, I'm taking my neices shopping after school for some Halloween costume ideas. Little Witch wants to be a fairy, I think, but Drama Queen still doesn't know what she wants to be. It doesn't help that all the kids at school are wearing outfits that barely cover their parts! I wish she'd just go as a mummy. Or a ghost in a really long sheet.

If you know a way to keep 12 year old girls from growing up - please contact me right away! Maybe I should be scrying about this....

lol oh I don't know, maybe Bailey's is a help! ;-) (It's yummy anyway.)

I haven't read the zombies book yet either, btw. Everyone I know seems to have though, and they say it's awesome. I'm going to have to break down and get a copy eventually. >.<

Ahh, the age old question - How to keep little girls from growing up. Still pondering that one...

I, too, enjoy flame watching. Except I usually have a glass of wine too many....

A fire bowl is a lovely idea. In my Buddhist tradition, there are fire rituals that aren't necessarily for divination but for removing negativity and creating a clear path.

I love to sit outside by our firebowl and stare at the flames as well. I'm much more entranced by fire than I am water, but perhaps that's because I am a Fire sign (Leo). I don't pretend to do any scrying however because as with me and meditation...nothing ever seems to happen and I cannot quiet my mind long enough to concentrate or relax. But there is nothing better than sitting out there on cool night, under the moon and stars and just enjoying the beauty and warmth of the fire.

As for how to keep 12 year old girls from growing up....good luck with that! Ha! I have an almost 12 year old girl going on 25 right now and trust me, it ain't easy! Especially when she is as tall as I am. The main thing I keep reminding her is to not be in such a hurry to grow up, because with that comes an awful lot of responsibility. I remind her how great it is to be a kid who doesn't have to worry yet about the cold hard realities of the world. To enjoy the freedom to think and play and create while she still has the luxury! I hope it's sinking it, but you never know. I also refuse to let her dress like a 'hoochie mama', regardless of what everyone else is wearing. The only thing I have going for me is that she is athletic and a bit of a Tom Boy, so she really doesn't fight me on things like that too much, thank goodness! :o)

I like my Tarot cards too ~
Let us know if that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is any good. I love the original, I don't know about this one!

Sounds like you're having a lovely time! I have had difficulty in the past when I've *tried* to scry. When I'm not paying attention is usually when I get stuff. But the effort is enjoyable anyway.

Good luck with the girls... I have a boy, and I was a hellion growing up so I'm not too sure I my advice would be relavent to keeping them out of trouble! *grins*

Rue - you managed to answer questions I just posted on my blog - without even trying.... now how do you suppose... anyway. My NEW plan for this weekend is to spend some lovely time with my little fire pit out back. Thank you for the great idea. It is the perfect time of year for it!
Now - with the girls. I was quickly made aware of the fact that girls, at around age 12, have the magical ability to time warp. You look at them one morning, and they are in pig tails, and watching sponge bob cartoons on tv, then, literally, in the blink of an eye, they are jingling their own car keys, asking if they can borrow 20 bucks for gas and cheeseburgers... It is amazing. Then, just when you are convinced that all signs of child hood have left your home, you peek in their room at night, and they are sleeping with their favorite little stuffed animal, and they suddenly look six years old again.
I'm quite sure that the entire concept of shape shifting started with pre-teen girls, who can change on whim from little girl, to young woman, in the blink of an eye.
It can't be stoped, or contained. If we are lucky, it can be harnessed, and used to teach the young goddesses that they are truly rulers of their own universe, and to never let anyone convince them of anything less.
Blessings to you - I know how full your hands are with the upcoming "shape shifting" that is coming your way :)

Rue -
I just now read your Thanksgiving post from Monday (I know, I'm always trying to catch up after getting behind). It brought me to tears, and I have to tell you. We all need to remember that "this is the best life ever". I have to share with you that I fancy myself to be a bit of an empath, and you have one of the richest, deepest souls I have ever been touched by, and I can see why you are so thankful.
Your blessings will continue to mulitply three fold because you take time to appreciate them.
Thank you for sharing such touching observations with us.
*Peace and Blessings*

I have a little fire pit too! LOVE that thing.
I really need to use it more often. I have done a little bit of scrying with fire. But like you, I need A LOT more practice.

Both of my kiddos are going to be clowns for Halloween...so they'll be covered. Of course, they're only 4 and 7, so I don't have to worry too much about the lack of clothes yet. LOL

Enjoy your book!
