Success - It's Not Just A Little Word!

Anastasia, from Deep Inside My Broom Closet, posted something today that inspired me. She picked up an idea from Ali Edwards called "One Little Word" where you choose a single word to focus on over the course of the coming year.

My word is "Success."

I feel like 2009's word was "Growth" and I am very happy with where this year's journey led me. But I have always had a love/hate relationship with success. I think the word has always weighed me down. I felt like, to be successful I had to be what everyone else wanted. I had to be society's version of what success looked like.

Now I realize that I can make my own success, and what it looks like to me - in my home, business, love life, and other places - may not be the same as how it looks to everyone else. And that's okay.

There have been a few bumps in the business planning with my sister in law about the store we are buying and I've been becoming increasingly dissappointed. But I am starting to realize that our visions of success may be different. We either have to find a way to make those visions co-operate, or we may have to find our individual successes in different places. Time will tell.

I think that meditating on this word, and what it means to me, will be a great way to grow in 2010!

I wish you all so much Happiness and Success for the coming year!

Thanks so much for the blog. I love that you are reflective and are seeing yourself clearly. This last year has been about growth for many and as it draws to a close I look forward to my word of the year, "Warrior". Hard to own right now, but thanks for stating your truth because it gives others permission to do the same.
Blessed Be,
Herbal Witch Dancing

That's a great word for 2010! And you're right: success is a very individual thing.

Success indeed! It reminds me something of what my grandmother said to me. As my sisters and I were talking about being rich, my grandmother, who lived in a tiny little ranch, on a title little plot of land, where she grew what vegetables she could, told me, "I have what I need and a little extra. I'm rich!" Ever since, I've felt like a rich person even when I can barely afford all my bills. I have what I need and a little extra. Success sounds similar.

Blaze your path, I'm sure it will be bright!

Thanks for this post. Blessed be.

All the best to you and yours in the coming new year. My word is "Living"...living life on its own terms and not always looking for something more...appreciating the good and working through the bad. Life is a gift.

Rue it really seems like you have it all worked out! All the real wise people of this world (famous, infamous, or unknown) have gone down your path. Success is personal. With a word like that for 2010 you will just see things unfolding for you I'm sure. It's never easy working with someone else - and it's never easy working alone either. Courage, persistance and insight ... you have it all! Go for it Rue!!

I wish you all the success and blessings you hope for in the coming year, Rue! And I do hope you and your sister are able to come to some favorable compromises. I have an idea of how excited you've been over this project and I'm really hoping and pulling for you!

Each person has their own ideal of success and being able to reach a common ground in those ideals can be viewed as success in itself!

May you find success in the coming year. Without too many rough spots or bumps in the road of life.

Blessings!

Happy New Year!! What a great word to meditate on. What a great idea too. Hmmm...I would have to say that word probably will fit me perfectly for next year as well. I feel as though, although I can still grow, I have done a lot of growing in the last two years. Now I need to be successful for myself. You will do great and your business will be a success despite the bumps. If there were no bumps we wouldn't grow to become successful, right? :)

I hope 2010 brings love, joy and happiness and everything in between for you!!

So thankful for our friendship. :)

I hope than things can work out for you both--if not together then on your own paths--that is okay too. I love what the picture in this blog post says about never being given a dream without also being given the ability to make it come true.

I do hope you're able to work things our regarding your shop. I know how excited you've been.

As for success, it's a WONDERFUL word to choose for 2010.

But, I can say this, you're already a success as a loving, caring, and loyal friend. And that counts for so much.
