Finding My Sanity...And Then Keeping It

Nonresistance, nonjudgement, and nonattachment are the three aspects of true freedom and enlightened living. ....Page 225 "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle

I'm having a bit of a hard time with non-attachment and the like, since mopping up an entire bucket of water off the brand new flooring in my suite. The snow has been melting rapidly here and the downspout couldn't handle the pressure. It gave way and the water went directly down the side of the house, into the earth, and aparently through a weak spot in the cement into my basement suite.

I've fixed the downspout and rid myself of the water, and have been blasting the spot with a space heater, hoping to dry out the flooring and be left with minimal damage. Regardless, my brother - the landlord - is in for a treat when he gets back from Mexico next week. He's going to have to dig down into the lawn at the side of the house to find the weak spot and fix it so I don't have the same problem when the Spring rains come.

In the meantime, to prevent myself from thinking about the work ahead of me while still only part-way into this move, and buying a business, and doing year-end at my bookkeeping job, I've been distracting myself by:

*Reading up on Groundhog Day, and those thousands of crazy people who make the trek up to Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney, PA each year to see if Phil can stave off 6 more weeks of Winter. Crazy or not - this is something I'd like to do.

*Eating Tim Hortons' doughnut of the month - the Caramel Apple Fritter.

*Drooling over Sylar now that Heroes has returned. (I know, the show is going the way of Lost - strange and incoherent - but I can't get enough of Sylar. Maybe they'll spin him off to his own show "Eyebrows and Mayhem.")

*Cuddling with my kitties and wishing for sunshine and Spring.

I'll get there....

I sure hope it doesn't take long to get the weak spot fixed. Caramel apple fritters, warmed up with a cup of hot tea, ohhhh. So looking forward to you getting your shop! I am with you, Spring can't get here fast enough! You will get there, you always do.

(((HUGS)))

Hope you stay dry until the basement wall is fixed :)

I haven't given up on Lost. I cling to the hope that all will be clearly explained in the final season. <:O

Love that Eckhart Tolle book - it is a frequently read one by my bed as I need an extra reminder from time to time. I have moved on a little into the work of A H Almaas... you may find it interesting too. Sorry to hear about the flooring. MMMMM attaching yourself to the caramel apple fritters and a couple of lovely kitties should do the trick! Pauve Rue. Those moments are frustrating...

"Eyebrows and Mayhem"

ahahahaha that is the funniest stuff I've read yet this morning. That tickles me!

I love Sylar too. Who DOESN'T!?!

Hang in there, lady. Sounds like you're doing really well - it will all come together.

Major boo on the potential water damage though. That bites - not something you want to deal with in combination with moving into a new place! At least you're on close terms with your landlord. ;-)

Sylar is awesome, water damage is not. You're doing a good thing with the heat on the spot, but you also want to displace the humidity in the air as well. Heat and air movement on the wet spot, dehumidifier or bathroom exhaust fan running to remove the water from the air.

Eyebrows and Mayhem ... looool.

Ooooo, love the little mossy monk! Reminds me a bit of a Chia pet, but in a spiritual way! Keep dry and enjoy the fritter!

I love Sylar...and have been a Heroes fan since Day One. I am sure you have seen "Groundhog's Day" with Bill Murray. That movie is all I can think of when someone mentions Phil. Wishing for warmer weather here too.

Sorry to hear about your water problem lady! I would also like to do the Groundhog Day trek, regardless of how crazy I know it is.

I have to agree with you on the Heros thing. I now call it Lost Heros....drives husband crazy (he still loves Heros.) :)

Hope you stay warm and dry and good luck in your future endevors.

Cheers!

Glad I'm not the only Heroes fan left - lol!

Ryan - thanks for the dehumidifier tip - I'm tracking one down now!

Mary - I have seen "Groundhog Day" and think it's cute, if you can get past all the repeating at first. I love Bill Murray!

One of these days I have to write you an email, Rue. Whenever I read your posts, I find myself nodding ever so often. Hah!

Bummer about the water. Hopefully it's the last of the season.

Ugh. Water damage... so glad it wasn't too awful and you got it all cleaned up.

'eyebrows and mayhem' Love it! lol!

that's the main reason I bought this place... no basement! every house I've lived in took on water.... I was so tire of mopping and pumping!!! Now, nice and dry, even when it storms for days!

Oh no! House issues are NEVER fun. Especially when they involve the foundation of the house. Hopefully it's nothing too serious and your brother can fix it relatively cheaply and without much hassle.

As for how you're spending your time? Eating donuts, reading, and snuggling with kitties sounds GREAT to me.

Oh, and I wouldn't mind going to Gobbler's Knob either. Every since I saw the movie, Groundhog Day, I've always thought it would be fun. We should go together! :D

Nonattachment is my blindspot as well. Good thing that life is a lesson in and of itself and the truth is not found until the end.
