Instant Magick

I talked to a friend in Florida the other night, and we were chatting about how wonderful "instant magick" works. You know, the kind of magic we do in our mundane lives to get the good parking spot, or for a quick health fix, or for whatever you need at a moments notice.

This also came up in last month's lesson for me in my course, and I read Christopher Penczak's book (titled Instant Magick) on the subject which offerred many ways to use these types of swift spells for getting what you need.

Christopher invites you to create a "trigger" which puts you in a state of mind to do magick which is a great idea, but moms have been doing this kind of magick for years without even knowing it!

My mom always found a good parking spot - she just expected one to be where she wanted to park, and it was always there. And my grandmother had a magickal teapot. Whenever I was feeling blue or sick or indifferent, I'd bike over to her house for a cup of tea, and I'd always feel better when I left. I even have a friend who finds a great deal everytime she goes shopping - she just expects to get a discount, and it never fails! Even if she doesn't find anything on sale on the store shelves, she finds that something is on sale when it's rung through the cashier.

I strongly believe that what we put out there is what we get back, so why shouldn't instant magick work? If I'm sending out an intention for something to happen (I'm not talking the Lottery here - I'm talking about something that could reasonably happen) and I fully expect that to happen, it often does. There are times we just randomly think about something - like a person we want to get in touch with - and the Universe aligns with our thoughts, and the next thing you know the phone is ringing, and that person is on the other end of the line.

My favourite new use for instant magick is the "step on your brake" trick my sister in law told me about. Whenever someone is really on your tail when you are driving, just mentally step on their brake. Imagine you are in their car, and are slowing stepping on the break pedal. You'd be surprised how well this works! I've had really agressive drivers back right off. (This may fall somewhere in the grey area of influencing others - but I tend to think that preventing an accident is good for all involved!)

Do you use instant magick? What's your favourite use? I'd love to know about your experiences!

Oh gosh, yes. You brought back a memory for me...Back in the days when I was smoker. Don't know if you would call this instant magic or what, but when the bus was slow to arrive, I'd light a cigarette to make it come faster....and the darned bus would show up a minute later.

My mom always, and I mean ALWAYS, gets the closest parking spot. Drives me nuts! But I know what you mean and for some reason just never really put it together. Thanks for showing me the magick in this. :)

I always get green lights on long drives, and every time it stays green for me I say "thank you". When I get really angry or nervous the lights start turning red. It's a good way to keep from getting angry on the road because I just think of how much faster I'll get home if I'm calm.

Fabulous post, Rue! For myself, I use a little nonsensical mantra to help get into traffic or find a parking space, and also another one when it looks like I'm going to be late getting somewhere I really don't need to be late to. It works like well...a charm! lol I honestly don't understand how it works, but people do tend to seriously underestimate the power of a bit of belief and solid expectation and what it can do!

Sorry for double posting, but I just read Mary's comment and for the record - that cigarette trick works for waitresses when you've been waiting forever for your food too. lol

What an excellent post! And yes! I use it quite frequently in different situations. When we have to be somewhere and time is short, or I'm tired, I ask the light to stay green, and thank it when it does. When my Mom is with us, who has difficulty walking, I picture a parking space closest to the door, and it is always open. If I misplace something, I concentrate on it, and can envision where it is (sometimes in some very unlikey places, too. .how THAT happens, I've yet to figure out! lol)
But I never thought of trying the brake on another person's car. I guess it is because of that gray area that you mentioned. But I'm with you! Despite their faith in their ability to stop on a dime, I truly don't think that they'd be happy with a crushed car either, so my "help" in distancing everyone into a safer zone is for the better good of all.

Thank you for the wonderful insights!!

I've been using Instant Magic since I met my bfff about 4 years ago, and I love it! One of my favorite instant magic "tricks" is creating a ball of energy and sending it to a loved one who is experiencing something traumatic, or just plain painful. I wrote a blog about it http://inannasstar.blogspot.com/2010/01/magical-mondays-goodness-gracious-great.html

As for the "imaginary brake", I'm from Jersey, if you're riding my ass you're gonna get the real brake and possibly the Jersey State Bird : )

Great post! And love that image!

I use it most when I want one of my kids to call. Works every time! Also use it to get water to boil quicker and to stay accident free when I commuted in the winter in Colorado.

Hubby uses it to get great parking spots and he too uses the lit cigarette to get food promptly at a restaurant.

wonderful post.. and I could not agree with you more. I definately use the green light and parking spot trick and it works wonderfully. I like to also use like Jeanne in regards to my kids calling as well as other friends... yet I have wondered if that is not a for of second sight instead...

Amazing post, Rue!

I use "instant magick" quite often. I also read Chris's book on the same.

I often "put it out there" when I'm looking for a parking space or am trying to manifest some of the other more mundane daily needs. I'm amazed and thrilled by how well it actually works!

We don't drive often, in fact last year we got rid of our car after it dropped it's wheel broke off while we were driving downtown. We are now a part of a car co-op. When we do drive I keep us moving in traffic by singing a little chant to the water elements to keep traffic flowing, works every time.

My Mom, Grandma and a few of my Aunts and myself are all able to get in think about someone with the intention of getting in touch with them and having that person call. I like to think that this is due to how close we all are.

I don't smoke but I always find that a trip to the bathroom while waiting for your order at a restaurant is a sure way to have your meal served.

I use instant magic when I want to be on time! I always think about with time I want to get there, then start driving and think about other stuff util I get there. I always arrive on time or early when I do this! It's great for when you are worried about getting to a job interview or other important things!!

Thanks so much for sharing! Like TMC, I don't smoke, but find that a trip to the bathroom works in restaraunts too. Oh, and I love the idea of petitioning Water for traffic to 'flow' - never thought of that!

Autumn - I have been able to strech time a tad here and there - but leaving a bit earlier helps too - lol!

Jeanne - I like the 'boil-water-quicker' idea - I'm going to try that, as I have an old-fashioned stove-top kettle I use and love. But it takes forever to boil water for tea!

Great idea, that brake thing. Have to try it! Mine is green lights. When I'm in a hurry to get somewhere I visualize green lights opening the way for me to carry on without stopping.

Also, if I'm waiting for someone to show up at my house and I've had enough I start getting ready to leave. Just about the time I'm ready to walk out the door, they show up. ;)

Cute post! Everything is a magickal moment or is it intuition? LOL!!!

I think the same can be said for people who are the kings and queens of doom and gloom. They expect negativity, and therefore, that's what they get.

My ::ahem:: mother is like this.

I just used some instant magick yesterday and I can't even believe how well it worked.

Here's a quick run-down:

I was feeling CRAPPY. I had a stomach virus, I had menstrual cramps, and I have a tooth which is quite painful...in fact, I'm getting a root canal next week.

Anyway, I asked one of my local Pagan friends to send me some healing energies, because I was feeling about as down and out as I could possibly feel.

About 15 minutes later, she told me she'd sent a gold ball of healing to my front door from across the river, and she wanted me to go breath it in.

I opened the door, and I'm not even kidding you, Jenn, the snow on my front door was sparkling gold. So I breathed in her healing energies, thanked the Goddess for working through Trish, thanked the elements...and closed the door.

At the exact same moment, about 10 minutes later, all my abdominal cramping stopped and the tooth I've been taking ibuprofen for around the clock only had to be medicated for TWICE yesterday (normally, it's 4 to 5 times a day).

I was just blown away by how well it worked. And I still feel fine today! In fact, I even ate a normal dinner last night without a single issue.

Amazing.

Gee Jen, Could that florida friend have been little old me ? As we talked about that night, I use "magik" all the time in my day to day activities. Parking spots, green lights, payments from customers.. I try to use positive intentions to "draw" things to me all the time. ( Im still working on that UNrealiatic powerball jackpot to build Sistaville though.)
Im glad we got to have our little magik conversation and I look forward to having MANY more in the future ! ( I need to call you and order my stuff off the website afterall ! )

Ooops I forgot. As far as the tailgating prevention is concerned, I'll try YOUR way, but up in NY we hit OUR REAL brake and that usually sends a pretty clear message. That combined with our State BIRD been flown in there direction usually does the trick !
