Another Round of Thanks

Although we Canadians celebrated Thanksgiving back in October, I have always enjoyed American Thanksgiving as an official start to the holiday season.

I've long been a fan of the Macy's parade, and each year I take the day off to watch the parade, bake and decorate my home.  I've been doing it since I was in high school, when my amazing mother would call me in "sick" to the school so I could stay home and enjoy the day.

Out comes the Winter greenery, the twinkle lights, and at my mom's house, her collection of village houses and assorted people and animals.  It's a funny set up.  Everything is mis-matched and in different sizes.  But she loves it.  It suits our strange and wonderful family!

At my house, I like to keep the breakables to a minimum or there would be cat-induced carnage for sure.  This is the first time my latest addition, Beau, will have experienced a decorated tree - so that will be interesting.

So, while I deck the halls and drink egg nog and watch the giant balloons float by on the television, I wanted to wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving!  Travel safe and find some time to enjoy the beginning of a rather hectic season!

Blessings!

I've always put my tree up on this day. This year it's packed away so it will be a little late, but at least it will be lit this year.

I am totally jealous.
Your mom let you stay at home.
We even had to go to school sick b/c no one ever stayed home.
Ever.
Wow.

We can never have to many thanks. I love that our American Thanksgiving give you a kick. Watching the Macy's parade is a favorite of mine too.

I try to remember the Canadian Thanksgiving. If I do not, please forgive, I am now old and gray.

Love your photo too.

Happy Thanksgiving now and next year, incase I forget. ((hugs__

This weekend our tree goes up as well. We normally have it up the day after Halloween, but we waited this year as our son was out of town for a few weeks. Tomorrow is the day ours will go up and all the rest of the decorations come out.

I love your little village scene and hope to have one up myself this year. We have four cats, so I really understand about keeping the breakables down to a minimum. I ended up making a bunch of wool sheep, wool ornaments, primitive gingerbread ornies and so on for our tree last year to ensure nothing would get broken. They were very good boys and all left the tree alone.

Happy Holiday season to you and yours!

It's that time, isn't it. I recently drove a six hour journey and while going through CDs before leaving, decided on holiday music. So enjoyable. Sarah McLachlan, Loreena McKennitt and, of course, A Charlie Brown Christmas...ahhh.

What a lovely tradition... I wish they showed the parade on TV here, too. Why not? Everything is so international these days... It's one of the things I would really love to see. In any case, I am glad you had such a great time -- and that your place is now decorated for the holidays. I put up my decorations around the same time (listening to the audio book version of "The Help"). I am glad I decorated early this year -- that helps to lessen the stress. :)

Big hugs,
Birgit
