Happy Groundhog Day!

I'm a sucker for a good groundhog. And Phil is a good groundhog!

Although they look remarkably like our Canadian marmots, and are of the marmot group of large ground squirrels, groundhogs (or woodchucks) are a much larger critter than our local furry friends. And you know what larger means! Larger....brains! All the better to predict weather with, of course!

And use a cellphone. Apparently Phil can text! And you know I would be in line to receive that message - so I registered here, and am awaiting a report from Phil from his post on Gobblers Knob.

He'd better have good news!

  1. I'm awaiting the report from Shubenacadie Sam, our local groundhog. He's usually not very brave. I'm anticipating much more winter :(

  3. How does he text without thumbs? Or do groundhogs have thumbs?
Keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy Spring arrival .......

  4. When you have claws like that, you don't need thumbs! lol We have our own resident groundhog that has numerous hidey holes throughout my garden. It is snowing here, so if my buddy were to come out today, no shadow! I have a feeling though, that we'll still have more winter, no matter what he predicts.

  5. Well I guess it is 6 more weeks of bad weather according to Phil... should have known.... yet I have a question do you go with Phil who is on the east coast or do you go by a local critter... I guess I am scraping at any reason for spring to come..

  9. Our little guy is called Staten Island Chuck, and he predicted an early spring. Last year he bit the mayor when he was trying to coax him out. That was too funny and made for a lot of joking this morning.

  10. Our Buckeye Chuck is in agreement with Staten Island Chuck on the early spring. IMHO majority rules- Spring is on its way! ;)

  11. A great many happy Groundhog Day wishes to you, too, sweet soul!

I agree entirely with you about groundhogs resembling our Canadian marmots and am reminded of the ones that come out to sun themselves on the concert that lines the River Channel :)

Wishing you a splendid Thursday & blissfully wonderful month of February!
