Pumpkin Flowers

I was gazing at my Baby Boo pumpkin plants today, and noticed for the first time that the little flowers blossoming all over it, looked like stars. How I could have missed this all these years, I don't know, but it got me thinking about the pumpkin plant, and how magical it is.

Here is some assorted lore:

The astrological correspondence of the pumpkin is the moon, and as such, it's elemental correspondence is water. The flowers appear celestial, with their star shapes, and I think they would be lovely to use in a ritual or as an altar decoration. The pumpkin is a symbol of the harvest, abundance and protection.

Here's a fun fact: According to Wikipedia, the "fear of being turned into a pumpkin" is called: apocolocynposis. Hmm...and I felt silly for being afraid of clowns?

It makes sense that the pumpkin corresponds to the moon and water. I"ve always associated pumpkins with a big harvest moon ... perhaps thanks to Charlie Brown? LOL And think of all the moisture that a pumpkin holds.

Now ... comparing pumpkins and clowns ... pumpkins are much much less scary than clowns!!! ~he-he~ Bring on the jack-o-lanterns!!!

Woman! Have you seeing those faces all painted up and those 'I'm about to kill you eyes'? There is something wrong with those who are not afraid of them! Now,you have a point in the whole being afraid of pumpkins issue--it makes me feel very normal.

I love your short insightful post about pumpkin flowers. A neighbor who lives a few doors from me has a huge patch, I went to ask for a couple of flowers for an offering. Don't they just look like they will please the Divine? I think so ;)

I don't like clowns either ~ especially the Bozo type!
You are right the blossoms do look like stars.
This is the time of year I want to dust off my Cinderella dvd, I just love the part where the pumpkin turns into a coach!

Oh yes! That is the very best part of Cinderella! A friend actually bought me a pumpkin coach candle holder that I just love!
