Still Dreaming of Spring...

Blueberry picking. 4 Girlfriends + 8 kids + a sunny, warm day = Bliss!

These are the things I think of when there is a foot of snow outside my door, and I really should be shovelling my way out to go to the office. Another cup of coffee, cats chittering away at the birds in the trees, and me - dreaming of Spring.

I know I'm supposed to embrace each season. Appreciate each turn of the Wheel. But January and July are not my favourite months. One is far too cold, and one is far too hot. I'm a little like Goldilocks - I like things....just right.

I'm also trying to get back to my daily practice. I've had two weeks of sporatic meditation and ocassional yoga, and not nearly enough walking, and my body and mind are feeling the lack.

What do you do to get back to 'real life' after the holidays? I've done my cleaning - which is a start. But the organizing is going slow, and the move is going slower. Any ideas to kick up some energy, when all I feel like is hiding inside?

Maybe I'll pull some of these blueberries out of the freezer. A little cobbler never hurt anyone. And perhaps that will count as "doing something" today! I'll just say that I'm taking my motivation, one blueberry at a time.

The blueberries look yummy. I agree we've got snow but not that much. I'm an Autumn and Spring person too. The snow is pretty but the cold I could do without. I mean windchills of well zero or less. Give me 30's and you may see me smile again. I'll be starting my seeds next month and can hardly wait! :)

I think you should hide inside, it's time for hibernation now. Go with it. Dive into it. Go out and get yourself a cozy beautiful throw, or some new comfy pajamas. Sit down with a hot cup of tea/coffee and just wallow in it. I have to agree though, I don't like it too hot or too cold either, so I tend to hibernate in the Summer if necessary : )

I'm with you. Why just this morning I was saying you can never make me happy. Winter is too cold and summer is too hot. This, what we have now, is just plain ridiculous...but I especially dislike August with all its humidity. By the way, I like the look on your blog.

Oh I so am not going outside for any reason. Nope not going to do it. I try to motivate myself with things like, if you don't get it done now, then you will be stuck inside when it is nice. Lot's of incense burning and music, seems to help me anyway.

Those blueberries look delicious! I feel your pain. I enjoy winter best through a window. From inside a warm room.

I'm having some trouble getting back into the swing of things after the holidays as well. I put on 13 pounds. THIRTEEN! Crazy.

Though I sing arias over the heat in July, I do not love winter, cannot no matter how hard I try, so I feel ya. :)

The cobbler sounds like a great start to get back to normal! Lol! I know what you mean about the weather. *sigh* I am entirely done with rain, okay and snow. Ugh. Love your blueberry picking pictures. Now I am dreaming of Spring and Summer. I also started my New Years organizing! Oh and cleaning too! This year I vow to be a better housekeeper and stay organized...oh and keep better financials. LOL!

Ohhh, I did that too today. I took out some gooseberrys and blueberrys and had them for supper!

Mmmm cobbler. I'm game, when will it be ready, I'll be there! ;-)

I hear you. I'm whiny about the cold and those few weeks in summer it's too hot to breathe too. I just wrote an article for Modern Pagan echoing your sentiments in fact - whining about winter but yeah I know I'm supposed to appreciate it.

Don't worry - like Mamma Moon said today - there's only 75 little days til Spring. We can make it!

This seems to be a common phenomenon for lots of us at the moment dearie! I'm the same - and a few others are too (as you can see from the comments ;-) I love extremes - as much as the just right. What I can't get around is 'in between.' The only way for me to get over the drizzle and grey (no snow, no real rain, just damp and lowish temps) is to race outside for a run or a bike ride. After that I'm all set for the rest. Otherwise I wallow inside and get more and more lethargic... Not easy, but once outside my whole perspective on life changes. Good luck possum!

Thanks for the sympathy! I'm such a whiner!

Feith - 13 is a lucky number, so perhaps you'll lose twice that much. At least, that would be my story! I haven't gotten on the scale - I don't want to end up throwing myself in front of a truck.

Michelle - better financials? I don't even want to think of the paperwork piling up for year end. Eeek!

Ange - a "run or a bike" - can I please have some of your energy?

Hugs all around - hope everyone gets some sunshine soon!

I am an avid lover of winter... I am. But I must admit that I miss the green. I am longing for Spring. Too much of the white stuff and freezing cold here is making me a little grumpy. I need to go out skiing or something so that I can fall in love with winter again.

Whenever I see you guys post about snow I feel really greatful that I live at the tip of Africa :-) No snow for me thanks!!! I wouldn't last 2 days...

mmmm blueberries. I want a second bush for our garden this year.

I find the organizing part of getting back to real life tedious when I do it all by myself. Thank all gods for the husband who is an organizing keep things clean and tidy kind of guy. Going through things with someone else always makes it go faster. Also put on some upbeat happy type music

Music!! Play upbeat summer-inspiring stuff and start with a small spot to organise. Open all the curtains, light candles, turn on lights to make your area as light as possible and (hopefully) give the feel of a sunny day. Do what you do, then go eat some more cobbler!! It'll be Spring in no time and then we sundogs can go out and play!
Cheers!

Mother Moon - that's my oldest neice - oh the tans we had this summer! I know too much sun isn't good for you - but that glow sure does a body good!

Very cold here today - but the sun is out!

In the bleak, heavily dark days of January and February it really can feel as though spring is a million years away, I agree. Thank you for sharing your lovely blueberry picking photos with us as a reminder that, hard as it may be to believe when the mercury dips to -25, spring really does reemerge again in due time.

Wishing you a serene & beatiful Friday, my friend!

First of all, LOVE the new page background. Just beautiful. What a beautiful visual of the blueberry picking and warm weather. Great friendships, too! Ahh...Spring!

As for after the holidays, in the midst of winter, I struggle too. We have mild weather here but the new year always gets me a bit down. I'm hoping some morning meditation practices and getting back into the gym will help boost my mood.

Bridgett said...

I'm the exact same way...spring and autumn are my favorite seasons because there aren't any 'extremes' then.

I hope you enjoyed that blueberry cobbler. It sounds devine!
