Pick A Card...

I've been trying an exercise to work on my intuition. I shuffle a deck of cards, pick 10 (face down so I can't see them) and try to guess if they are red or black. There are numerous exercises to help you work with your psychic mind, and those of us taking the Inner Temple course with Christopher Penczak are encouraged to try several of them. But I've been working with the cards.

I had tried this exercise in a group setting a few months ago, and only guessed one card right out of six. My partner guessed all of them correctly. To which I replied "wow - I'd never be able to do that." Of course, I didn't. You would think I would know better - being someone who puts alot of stock in 'intention' - saying or thinking something like that would ensure it would come to pass. Which it did.

Flash forward to yesterday, when I took 10 cards and held them one by one, in my left hand. I asked "is this card red?" and if I got a light feeling, the answer was "yes." If I got a heavy feeling on my left side, the answer was "no." I got all 10 cards right. To which I instantly said "Wow, I'll bet I couldn't do that again." Sigh... You'd think I'd learn. Because, of course, I didn't do it again.

I tried several different ways: listening for an answer, making quick, snap decisions based on gut feeling, and re-trying the original approach. I got anywhere from 30-70 percent accuracy. But not 100 percent again. Grrr! Blast my negative mind!

Today went a bit better. I tried 3 pulls of 10 cards, and managed to get 70 percent accuracy.

Still, that little seed of doubt was planted. I'm going to have to work on digging it up!

Do you do any kind of exercises to encourage intuition, or are you just naturally gifted?

I understand completely what you mean about the old negative thought... it creeps in before you know it sometimes... I have done the exact same thing as you in regards to when I acurately know something.... I have improved but it definately is an exercise....

self fulfilling, it's what we do best :)

I've been thinking lately about working again with intuition, I used to dream true and still do once in a while but I have no control over it.

I've actually done no exercises, but I do try to follow my intuition even when others say I am wrong...because my intuition is usually right.

This is an excellent exercise. I use it myself to stay sharp and can hit 40-45 of 52 cards. Very good way to do so. Another method I use is to spin a penny and predict heads or tails. That one's a little easier because there's more information for the subconscious to absorb, but it works on the same principle as the cards. :)

That's a cool idea! Mostly I work on meditations. I also use to dream true events, but no control over what I dreamed!

I don't normally do any exercises--though I will have to try that one. I would be a bit afraid of discouraging myself. In some areas my intuition is quite dead on--usually in terms of relationships and people.

There came a point where I accepted that I simply had to trust my intuition...if I kept doubting myself I would never be able to do anything. However I would like to try this, see if I've gotten any better with this sort of thing!

Oooh I so know what you mean. I am so good at sabotaging myself this way. If you ever figure out a way to make that negative nancy in our heads shut the heck up already, let me know will you? lol

This sounds like a cool exercise. Good for you for stretchin your psychic muscles. Good luck with it!

My son Caleb and I do this exercise. He's much better at it than I am.
I have "super mom" intuition when it comes to my kids though. I guess I'm just more connected to them than the cards.

the best way that I have found to tweak my intuitive powers is to give them a break when I seem to be pushing too hard. take a walk, stare at a mandela, get a cup of tea or coffee, just relax. oh and laughter seems to help alot, watch a funny sitcom or remember some old jokes, then go back to the work of improving your intuition.

Great idea, nice and simple. I have a tendency to over think things sometimes, so I'd be trying to get the exact cards in order or something. Way to go on the accuracy!! I used to try to do these types of practices, but have fallen out of practice with it. Maybe I should give it another go....

My mother used to do this with me when I was young. We would say the red cards were "hot" and the black cards "cold", then hold our hands over them to try and feel which was which. Then I just thought it was a game. I never realized I was tuning my intuition. It's always good to "clean out the cobwebs" from that part of our brain that lies dormant usually.

Great post! I have a very strong intuition, especially as it relates to other people. But dang if I can't do an exercise such as this and never get many right. And I too am a HUGE believer in intent and reality creation...so I think I may be just like you...letting the doubt creep in and sabotage my efforts.

I usually take this as a sign to give up on trying to perfect my skills, in lieu of just being grateful for what I have....but I sure would like to be better at this. I think I'll go fetch a deck of cards right now! :o)

ok Rue -
I'm not sure why - but you have been on my mind. At first I was concerned - thinking we hadn't seen a post from you in "ages" - but when I look - it was just a day or so ago, so I'm not sure why you are on my mind. Just checking in to see that all is well.

That is soooo something I would do too! LOL Keep at it til I get it perfect then sabatoge myself by doing it again and not getting them all right!! Human nature girl....

I'm going to try the card excercise now too. Another one that is fun is "which hand is it in?" Have someone put a penny in their hand behind their back and guess which hand.

I'm following you now too. :)
